Match Report: Monday 9th February 2009 against Old Town Hoods
Written by Derek on February 25th, 2009The detailed report notes of this match were mislaid before completion and so this is a much shortened version.
POPP players were Peter, David and Derek. Old Town players were Jo, Don and Cynthia
Peter and David played consistently throughout and easily achieved three-game victories in all their sets. Don was potentially a good “long-table” player with some excellent strokes but not enough consistency to win games. Jo had two or three good and reliable shots but could not deal with David and Peter’s range of strokes. Cynthia was their weakest player, easily found out and unable to compete with her limited range of shots. Derek struggled over five games with Jo and Don but just managed to survive, ensuring a 9-0 away win.
The strength of David and Peter is their calmness and consistency across a wide range of shots and their ability to dig in where necessary and push home an advantage. Derek has currently lost any kind of focus and won two of these five-game sets by luck rather than by skill or endeavour. Still, a rare victory!
