About POPPs Table Tennis Teams

For two years up to June 2009 POPP (Partnership for Older People’s Projects) supported table tennis coaching sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10.15am to 11.45am at the Halifax Table Tennis Centre, Club Lane, for the over 50s. The POPPS funding finished in June 2009 and since then, from July 2009, a new community group called IN TOUCH has taken over management of manyof the POPPS schemes and continues to run its activies in Halifax.

The over 50s Halifax table tennis sessions continue to be coached by Alan Dickinson, a highly experienced and well respected coach in the Halifax region, and are made up of a mixture of experienced, returning and beginning players who have made good progress under Alan’s expert coaching. POPPS supported a POPPs Table Tennis Team in Division 3 of the Halifax Table Tennis League in the 2008-09 season in which they finished 8th out of 11. In the 2009-10 season two teams were funded, the A team finishing 3rd and the B team 10th out of 12 teams in the division. Both teams remained in Division 3 for the 2010-11 season and continued without funding with the ending of the POPPs scheme.
